“(...) THERE THEY ARE, THE ONES WE CAN, AND SHOULD, COUNT ON TO BUILD THE NEXT GENERATION OF WINEGROWERS. OUR PRINCESSES OF WINE” - NOVEMBER 2012, FERNANDO MELO.
The D’Uva – Portugal Wine Girls came together by chance. The Journalist Fernando Melo wanted to write a story for Sunday magazines in Diário de Notícias and in Jornal de Notícias about women in roles of leadership and management in the wine industry, and ended up bringing together 12 producers in a photo shoot that was part of his article. The first meeting created a rapport among the girls, and the story later served to revive that initial mediating spirit. They ended up planning a dinner and, later on, other jointly-organized initiatives. So, they thought, why not create an organized and structured group of Portuguese women of wine? In 2016, they decided to go ahead with the formalization of D'Uva, with the eight producers who were able to accept the challenge.
