Adega Mayor has brought the tradition of wine production back to Campo Maior. Adega Mayor, opened in 2007, is the main focus of the Nabeiro Group in the area of winemaking, and came about as a project that united the art of wine with the art of Siza Vieira, in an homage to the architecture of wine and of life.
With vineyards located on the Herdade das Argamassas and the Herdade da Godinha, in Campo Maior, Adega Mayor has quickly become a distinguished name in Portuguese wine tourism as it is the first designer cellar constructed in Portugal, and is a major attraction for visitors and wine lovers from around the world.
The vineyard is spread throughout a property of 350 hectares with holm oak, vineyards and olive groves, and has been classified as having elevated interest due to the biodiversity it contains.
Adega Mayor has a very diverse portfolio. In addition to the special editions that it releases every year, it also produces reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling wines; Caiado, Monte Mayor, Solista, Reserva do comendador and Pai Chão respectively. Adega Mayor produced its first wine in 2002, and continues to focus on Portuguese varietals that are well-adapted to the climate and soil of Campo Maior, in an effort to promote the country's heritage.
